Dr. Dana Winchester
As a wellness oriented provider of health care, Dr. Winchester’s patients often ask her what’s to blame for rampant infertility rates. According to the British Medical Journal, “One in six couples have an unwanted delay in conception.” Research indicates that women ages 35 to 39 conceive at half the rate of women ages 19-26.
If you were to look at the media, you would see an overemphasis of the “age factor,” and an underrepresentation of other major contributors to infertility. Women are waiting longer to have children in order to establish careers, and are sent the message that if they wait too long, their only option is to take fertility drugs and undergo fertilization procedures. Medical fertility treatments are not without risk, and can trigger an array of physical symptoms including post-partum depression.

Preliminary research indicates that chiropractic care may help correct fertility problems, and approximately half of couples who struggle with fertility will eventually conceive by practicing relatively holistic options. According to a new study, a 23 year old woman received chiropractic care to improve her overall health and to improve fertility. She also had numbness and tingling in her left foot and temporary bouts of numbness in both legs and feet.
Chiropractic examination revealed that the woman’s spine showed signs of a very common irregularity, called a vertebral subluxation. This condition occurs when spinal movement is restricted or vertebrate become slightly misaligned. Because countless nerves enter and exit the spinal column between the vertebral bones, researchers speculate the vertebral subluxations may impede nerve flow through the entire body, including the reproductive system. After treatment through spinal adjustements, “the patient had her first natural menstrual cycle 3 ½ months into care and discovered she was pregnant 4 ½ months after the initiation of chiropractic care.”
Dr. Winchester and Associates at The Winchester Institute correct and prevent subluxations with highly specialized spinal adjustments. For more information about Chiropractic care, call 614-760-5555 or visit www.thewinchesterinstitute.com
A study released in 2006 also suggests that chiropractic care may correct some cases of infertility. The report followed two women who were unable to ovulate due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Prior to chiropractic care, the women both scored a 10 out of 10 on a standard assessment for menstrual irregularity, demonstrating that they were unable to ovulate. The women both underwent Chiropractic care, and following their treatment both women rated a 0 out of 10 on the scale, indicating a complete recovery.
The specific spinal adjustments that Dr. Winchester and Associates provide to patients may improve the internal balance of women’s bodies and enhance the likelihood of conception. For more information call 614-760-5555 or visit www.thewinchesterinstitute.com.
Another way the chiropractic care may correct infertility is by providing natural pain relief, which allows patients to avoid pain medications. Many women who think they can’t get pregnant actually do conceive but miscarry during the early days of pregnancy. There are no signs and symptoms of an early miscarriage, so women who experience them may never even know they are pregnant.
That is why it’s imperative for infertile women to steer clear of substances that may trigger miscarriage, such as prescription medications and over-the-counter pain relievers such as anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). A recent study showed that women who took NAIDS were 80% more likely to suffer a miscarriage than those who avoided these drugs. This is not only true for mothers, but also for fathers. Regular Chiropractic adjustments can help patients stay pain-free without the use of drugs.

Julia was first introduced to yoga in 2005 when she signed up for a beginner’s series at It’s Yoga in Grandview, but it wasn’t until 2 years later that she was called back to yoga as a means of dealing with severe anxiety and panic disorder. Through asana, pranayama and meditation, she felt a great weight lifted and was able to breathe again. After experiencing the vast physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga she was determined to share it with others. Julia is trained in both Hatha and Ashtanga yoga and will complete her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification in June of 2011 with Laurel Hodory. This intensive training combines the intelligence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system and the refined alignment principles of Hatha Yoga, incorporating hands-on assists and modifications. Her classes are light-hearted and playful and allow space for each student to step into their own light, both on and off the mat.
